Canned lines. It is your ally. In moments when the mind succumbs to illusions or is overwhelmed by variables in the environment, it can be difficult directing your will to a correct course of action. There can be a lack of direction or light to guide oneself towards.
We’ve all experienced the feeling of not knowing what to say or do. Where the internal compass is broken and the road ahead seems unclear. But maneuvering through the social landscape blind isn’t impossible. Each labyrinth has its way out. For success, we must look at what is practical.
Social interactions are structured systems that can be logically understood. They are made up of content and behaviors that can be correctly predicted and expressed. Understanding these systems while relying on past paths of success can be of great benefit.
But do not mistake this as an argument on the reliance of “proven” paths or techniques. Theories must be field tested indefinitely. No theory can truly be relied on.
Nonetheless, navigating out of the dark by utilizing scripted material or predictable response chains can help keep conversations running. Exploring topics that can be relatively transitioned into and out of makes communication easy.
Scripted material won’t help us arrive at a specific location, one of connection. But it can help us emerge from the fog that we may be trapped in. Don’t lose hope when you get stuck. Look for a way out, and take action.
