So You Want to Be High Status?

Well it comes at a cost. Be prepared to lie. Be ready to stomp on others throats. Be willing to be tyrannical. Be willing to give up any sense of morality. Status requires winners and losers. Status requires superiority over others. Status requires the enslavement and sacrifice of those at the bottom. It’s built off the idea of a hierarchy and the pyramid is stacked against you. Is this what you truly want? Ask yourself this, why do you so desperately need it.

For the most part, seeking status is driven by an insecurity of our own self-worth. That we are not enough. That we need someone beneath us to feel like we’re on top. Well sorry to break it to you. Even if you achieve high status, you will never be satisfied. You will never be fulfilled. That is the true cost.

If we can’t find fulfillment in status, then why even bother. Don’t lose hope yet. There is one way of achieving meaning in life while having everything you seek. Instead of being high status, be of high value. Instead of stabbing people in the back, offer a helping hand. Instead of being a tyrant, be a leader. Instead of forcing your will on to people, be chosen. Instead of looking down on weakness, inspire strength in others.

Your actions won’t go unnoticed. You’ll see opportunities and riches will be given to you rather than taken. But that still doesn’t mean it's guaranteed. Value is not transactional. Being of value means being of service. That means that the act itself will bring fulfillment. That's what it means to be enough.
