Getting Carried Away

The hamster wheel that is our own mind can keep us feeling motivated and self-stimulated; but at a cost. Sure it makes us feel good and sometimes powerful when we engage the world around us in this way. More is better we say to ourselves. Dominate the conversation. Establish control. All sound like reasonable ways of conquering over others while simultaneously validating our own ego.
But it can easily push people away. Our need to force our will onto others shows one thing. That we have no concern for others. No empathy. We haven't taken the time and space to allow others to participate. Essentially forcing them into a role of subordination or object.
We don't intend for this to happen. But life's monotonous tempo and not slowing the pace of our own thoughts, emotions and actions can lead us towards a path of alienation. Take the time to get out of your own head and shut up. Listen to your environment. Pay attention to what others may be feeling. Stop being so selfish and have some compassion.
